Backing the field starts with protecting it.
Safety isn’t a program we run alongside the work. It’s planned into every job before the first task starts, and it’s someone’s full-time job to keep it that way.
The record
Our Experience Modification Rate has run well below the industry baseline of 1.0 for three consecutive years:
Our goal is simple and non-negotiable: zero injuries, zero lost-time accidents, zero violations.
The program behind the number:
- Dedicated safety leadership. A full-time Safety Director and Safety Administrator oversee training, documentation, and compliance.
- An OSHA 30 workforce. Every Best Mechanical team member holds OSHA 30 certification.
- Safety planned in, not bolted on. Hazard elimination begins at estimating and continues through pre-planning and Job Safety Analyses.
- Weekly documented training. Foremen lead and document jobsite-specific safety training every week.
- Written programs for the work we do. Our Safety and Health Manual covers task-specific procedures and is reviewed annually.
- Annual drug testing. Every employee participates in annual drug testing.
- Union training partnership. Union training programs keep our workforce skilled, current, and safety-focused.
The culture behind the program:
- Stop Work Authority. Every employee — every one — has the authority to stop work when something isn’t safe. No questions, no repercussions.
- Behavior Based Observations. Our crews watch out for each other through a peer-to-peer observation program: recognizing safe behavior, correcting at-risk behavior, and feeding what we learn back into weekly training. Safety at Best Mechanical is a shared responsibility, not a policing function.
- Fast, honest reporting. Incidents are reported within the hour, investigated by the Safety Director, and turned into preventive action — because the only acceptable use of an incident is making sure it doesn’t happen twice.
The same standard for everyone on our jobs. Subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers working with Best Mechanical are held to our Safety and Health Manual and OSHA standards as the minimum — and safety performance is part of how we select who we work with.
Our safety record reflects how we plan and how we build. We’re glad to walk through our full program in any prequalification.
